Well, what can I say... definitely a classic (it's from 1992), one of Peter Jackson's first movies. Extremely gory and bloody, but not just stupid zombie killing, there's a hilarious sense of humor throughout the movie! Great entertainment!

My post concerning Andy's recommended movie

Poisonous Sumatran rat-monkey you say? Sounds interesting, lol. What genre is it, Andy?

EDIT: Doesn't matter Andy, I should've gone on the link, lol. I like comedy horror. Is it anything like Shaun of the Dead? And i can't believe that PJ did comedy or horror!

I'd call if fun-splatter, cause it's really extremely bloody, but (as I said) also very funny. It's not meant to be serious, so it's not one of the boring zombie films, where the good guys just kill some zombies

Yes, at the beginning of his career PJ made only fun splatter (another very popular movie is Bad Taste) movies.

And you are right, just the poisonous Sumatran rat-monkey thing already rocks (but there are many other things where you just laugh, at the end of the movie there is s scene with a lawnmower and a house full of zombies... )

Sounds good. Generally I don't like horror, but some comedy horrors are quite good, lol. Do you recommend the other PJ film too, Bad Taste?

I wouldn't call it comedy horror, because when I think of comedy horror, I think of a movie which is about 50 % comedy and 50 % horror, but Braindead is rather 10 % comedy, 90 % horror. BUT the movie is the whole time just unbelievably absurd, in a funny way, yet definitely no comedy (there's not one single joke in it). And it's not horror, horror is imo intense and thrilling, and Braindead is definitely not... it's extremely gory, it's said to be the bloodiest movie ever (measured by the amount of blood). I can PM you a scene from the movie (the one with thel lawnmower and 20 zombies ), that you know what splatter is

The most absurd (and therefore extremely funny) elements:

A baby zombie
Zombies having sex (not explicit of course, it's not pr0n)
A group of zombies being chopped up with a lawn mower
Talking intestines
A kung-fu zombie-ass-kicking priest
A zombie's head being embedded onto a lightbulb so it's face lights up like a Jack-O-Lantern

Haven't seen Bad Taste yet, but it's said to be on par with Braindead.

Quoted your review post in the first post on this thread.

Lol only had time to watch the lawnmower clip 'cause of school work, and you were right, lots of blood and guts everywhere. The movie looks quite good so maybe I'll rent it out or summit. I'm surprised at the way PJ went from that to LOTR and KK

EDIT: Thanks LS

Andy, I have to agree with you about House of Flying Daggers. I have it on DVD, and I went to see it in the cinema...the only movie I can remember being that good in the cinema was Black Hawk Down. It was THAT absorbing.

Actually I bought this one AFTER I bought HOFD, and what can I say... they are both fantastic, I really love them. What a great way to tell a story, and also - like in HOFD - a great landscape. This movie is so stylish, you can't top that I think... every scene has it's own dominating colour, and that looks just great.

I'm very glad to have the Special Edition (took a lot of time and a lot of money, but I was finally able to find it at Amazon), there's the Director's Cut, and also the whole movie in HDTV (unfortunately only the smallest resolution, 1280x720, and a weak codec, but still better than usual DVD) on two DVDs.

Like House Of Flying Daggers, one of my favourite movies!

Runtime: 95 min, 105 min (Director's Cut)
Rated PG-13 for stylized martial arts violence

I have that on dvd. It is a quality film, imo. But what else can you expect from Quentin Tarantino? Lol. The plot is a bit difficult to follow in places but overall it is well worth watching!! I like the part when all the arrows are flying into the school, lol.
